Hello, two weeks into the future! haha...summer is going well, I mean, how could it not?
I have no school! It's the best thing ever!
And due to poor weather (rain and coolness), I didn't have to go into work yet to the ol' chip truck. So, what pray tell have I been doing for the past 2 weeks? I've been reading and writing--and watching the odd movie or such. Honestly, you'd be amazed at how much time daily chores, walking the dogs, working out, reading a stack of novels and writing your own, takes up! I'm dreading real employment only because I'll have less time for the things I'm working on--but I need the money badly so I need to shut up in that area. I sold a few things on ebay for the first time. Weird.
It's a confusing system and getting the shipping estimates and then getting the junk shipped is the worst part.
At any rate, I started soccer on Sunday. Our team (which has a lot of St. Chris people on it), is so slack and casual, and without a coach-I love it-and it would initially appear that against the preparing opponents with a coach, we would surely lose the game. Well, we won that game! By many points! My goalie skills are sub-par right now though, and I wish I had someone to practice with outside. Oh well.
I haven't called to arrange my first highland lesson here yet because I honestly have no money in my account. I can't pay for the damn lessons right now arhg. Now my very large visa bills are coming to mind, as well. I hate money. It's not faaaair.
Anyway, I would go out and partake in..er..Sarnia's "nightlife" but I am just very much consumed by my work right now. I knew that embarking on this novel-writing mission would be a lot of work, but one doesn't realize its scale until you get the ball rolling. I mean, I've got characters and interaction to work out, plots within plots, twists to be planned, symbolism to be set up in its proper places, science to be reviewed....honestly, I spent about an hour last night finding just the right star system. I mean, using a red supergiant star isn't exactly going to work well when the damn things explode within 10 million or so. It's a lot of work and you finally understand what authors mean when they get down about it or get blocked...anyway...I've got screenplays I need to work on too but I just can't find the time. I'm going to have to make more time. And then I'm supposed to be at a friend's down the street to start mucking with filming/camera techniques and the like and I've just been hiding away with my laptop, pounding on the keyboard to get through my other stuff. Not to mention, I have a nice stack of novels I am trying to get through. Life is good-except for the money part...stupid money.
Some new novels made their appearance into my summer-collection last week too after an unexpected trip to London with some friends (doh!): A Wizard of Earthsea - Ursula Le Guin
Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
Artemis Fowl - Eoin Colfer
Some of the books I buy or am reading are mainly for personal analysis of the author's styles. That's how I develop my own writing.
Anyway um....here.....a picture of me in my new Highland Dancing outfit...I think the buckle's too tight and I don't have tartan socks yet, oh well.
