School starts today. So if you didn't realize that already, you're probably missing your classes you truant!
Anyway, this week went by quickly enough I suppose.
My friend at the other SMC residence doesn't have internet yet - stupid historic houses - so he's been ringing my cell every day and I wasn't happy about it. I only have a set amount of minutes on my mobile and coupled with my loathing of using cell phones in the first place, it resulted in some rather unhappy Laura-ness. He had better get it today!
My first Highland lesson back was tiring. Honestly, you think you're doing a good job practicing at home (okay, I never thought that at all) and then you get there and you just suck. I did managed to complete the entire sword dance without stopping though, which makes me happy. I just hate that stupid fling. It's so stupid. I've been working on the 4-step fling for almost 2 years now and god dammit!
The next day, I was sore. This was also an indication of how lax my practicing has been over the summer. What can I say, running in a straight line was just easier than jumping up and down trying to turn your feet out in freakish ways that just don't seem humanly possible at this stage in life. Alas.
I went shopping sometime this week with my friend for things I needed. I dislike shopping - getting the items is okay, but the hoards of stupid people and noise of stupid music just seems to sour the experience. Honestly, I think I choose my clothing stores based on how "less" offensive the music is to my poor ears.
I got a new pair of trainers: New Balance.....er....I don't know what else to say about them. They are...good. And a pair of capri's and a top from Old Navy and H-M respectively, because I didn't realize that the fall would be so bloody hot still!
At one other point, I ventured to the U of T Bookstore to get my texts. Of course, only the archaeology lab book was in. My landscape's text wasn't in yet. :-| ....I'm thinking of just getting it from the library.
Clubs Day....I signed up for the row team and the Astronomy Society, found out the first meeting for the ASA and nearly got trampled by frosh under the burning heat of the sun. Having enough of that, I went back to my dorm and slept. Screw the Sloan Concert. I think I was supposed to go to a pubnite for BIOME that night, too. But my friend who was coming with me, didn't show up until 9ish and by that point, I figured they would have moved venues as so happens. So we went to get "fancy coffees" from Second Cup and sat in Philosopher's Walk and coincidently had some sort of frustrating philosophical talk. The sort that riles him up and makes him depressed about life for a few hours while I fall into apathetic sullenness about it, because really, who cares.
I also signed up, online, for the AC's START fencing, ultimate frisbee, and soccer. Exciting.
Why did I sign up for rowing? It's such a pain to get down there. I wanted to try it out, though. Granted, it was a lot of fun! I met some great people and learned a lot. I didn't quite appreciate the "5-minute warm up run" that was actually a 6k run (i'm not joking either, it really was 6K). I refused to stop and walk. I had to finish running the entire thing. That's just the way I am, I suppose. At one point I probably got to thinking that the run was a random method of weeding people out and I didn't want to be cut, so I just kept going. It was nothing of the sort, though, and I won nothing except my own personal acomplishment. Damn. Who needs that. Just kidding. Or AM I?..yes. yes, I really am.
The whole training for the rowing went a bit better except I always had the sneaking suspicion that the guy training us in the water was smirking at me the whole while as I frantically tried to handle the oars and whatnot. It didn't help that I was one of the smallest persons there and that this particular boat was meant for the BIG guys. Back at dinner, everyone stared at me. "What happened to YOU?" Yes. I got completely sun burned. Damn 6k run and hours of training! I didn't except to be outside that long. I explained I went to rowing and whatnot and one of the girls says, "for coxi?"...I says..."No, er, for rowing! as a rower!..."
She sort of grinned at me and proceeded to say, "darling, coxi's are generally your size, not the rowers."
Soooo...all in all, I decided at that point I didn't want to join the team. Mostly because of the pain it was to get down to the boat club. I'm already too busy.
I don't know what it was but the next day, Sunday, I was more sore than I've been in a long time. About as much as after that 6-hour soccer tournament. I could barely walk down the stairs. Even today I can still feel it. Arhg. I just read books in my bed the whole day, pretty much, except for when my friend Nicole who lived at my rez last year stopped by and we watched an ep of BSG on the telly.
The end.
I've just been writing now and I've got to get to the gym before class...if I have class..it's sort of a lab...
meh. Shut up and look at a picture of my puppy Neron, now. Here he is unhappy about me packing to leave for school.
